Good Day CGN,

Wanted to get consensus on what people think the value of an early model Sig Sauer P226 that was made in W.Germany. The date stamp reads JJ which means made in 1988. And it would be one in good condition.

Thanks for the info Wolf, yes they are all matching serial numbers, yes plum colored hammer. Not sure what the mud scalloped cuts would like like? No to original box and no person before me seems to put on hogue grips.

Can't tell condition without pics. You can get a Grade II 226 for about $700 at a store.

I believe mud rails were in the 1986-87 range so you might be good. Pics would definitely be good. If it didn't have mud rails I'd buy it as I love old SIG's and have a box full of parts to keep 'em running forever.

Also there was the scalloped rails which were deep scallops and another lighter scalloped version.

Q:
1- does have mud scalloped cuts on frame rails?
2- does have plum colored hammer?
3- does have original factory plastic grips?
4- match all three serial numbers - frame/slide/bbl?
5- original cardboard box?

^ if you have all above answered with "yes"... then you have an original SIG P226 that can be sold at a premium price...aprox $800-850.
Regular priced old German SIGs that are CPO (comes in red plastic box) can be sold around $600.

Some SIG collectors would say they are more rare so they might demand a premium but if you want a shooter, stay away from the mud rails is the consensus.

Good info in here... if you want to know if you have mud rails, just Google images "p226 mud rails" and the first couple of pics are unmistakable.

If your frame looks like one of those then you've got mud rails. If not, then you don't. Nothing wrong with them, just avoid +P ammo like mentioned above.

And I think with triple serials, original grips, mags, manual, test target, cardboard box you could fetch around 900ish... if it's brand new old stock then I'd say definitely worth more than a 'new' sig at retail.

These are like action figures to some of us. The ones in original packaging that have never been played with are worth more!
