Isn't 7.92 a .323 and a 7.7 a .311? Are you saying those are the possible caliber a because that's what they were made or converted to or that's what the gun store said? How could they not distinguish a 6.5 cal bore from a 30 cal?
6.5 was the original round,
the 7.7jap was a prototype with this rifle,
30-06 was what the thai converted it to after the 50's,
8mm mauser would mean this is a whole different rifle entirely
There was a Chinese Mauser in some obscure cartridge, 6.8 x 57 or such? Not likely that this would be it, but good to have a chamber casting irregardless.
It wouldn't be 7.7x58 Japanese you can rule that out immediately as it was a Type 38.
Those are Thai markings, so the two calibers I would look at is .30-06 or 6.5x50sr. I personally would suspect .30-06 as most likely as it has the chamber cut to accommodate the longer round.
This rifle was a modification of a T38 by the Siamese after WW11 into a shorter rifle in caliber 30-06. None were imported into the US and the ones that are here came here through some other Country. I have wanted on of these for years and finally found a nice one. They rebored and rechambered the original 6.5 barrel to make it fire 30-06 ammo. As you can see in the pictures the lenghtened the opening both front and back in the action and did the same for the magazine box. The also put a recoil bolt through the stock behind the front guard screw. It is called a Siamese 83/88 Rifle. I'm told there are less than a dozen over here.
