My young hunting protege was given a Browning BPS and we discovered yesterday it has no magazine plug.

The mag takes 4 shells right now. Can he put a dowel in there the length of two 2 3/4-inch shells or does he have to buy a commercially produced plug.

How do you open up the magazine end?

I have an 870, an A5 and a Browning Gold but I've only ever operated on the 870.

Friction sleeve holds the mag spring in . Remove and lnstall a piece of plastic solid or pipe that fits inside the spring . Wood takes on water and holds moisture .

A piece of wood dowel that fits inside the spring will work well. Round the ends slightly so that they do not catch on the spring coils. You can even take a washer that will fit inside the magazine tube, and epoxy it to the outer end of the plug and inside the magazine cap so that the spring pushes against it.
