I know that whether to plug or not has been covered extensively and we all agree that plugging is the ONLY way to go. I have read most of the posts and find cork to be a good plug. What else to people use? I really like the threaded rod through the bore with nuts to hold the plugs idea. The extensions on the rod would give you something to hand it by as well.

Let's hear what you use to plug the barrel/chamber.........

I've actually seen a guy using 2 rubber corks and a bungee cord between them.

Worked great for the guy, the bungee holds the corks an cant scratch the inside of your barrel/chamber up.

I use the threaded rod method. It positively seals the bore, and the plugs can't get knocked out.
If it is a gas gun, the gas port is going to have to be plugged.

Couldn't you just use a wooden dowel and plug it with that, put it in enough it would expand a tiny bit and seal up pretty good. It is the only way I have seen it done.

I've had success with various sizes of wooden dowels (Home Depot, Home Hardware, Beaver Lumber) and when I plugged the barrel on both ends, I filled the barrel up with water to act as a heat sink. :D I've even reparke'd barrels without the water as a heat sink and everything worked out well.

Hope this helps,
Barney
