Just getting into ARs and have one on order. I picked up a few Gen 3 20 round PMAGs from a CGN dealer. However, unlike my other PMAGs (from other CGN dealers), the rivet is located on the front and is not countersunk. I thought I would run it by you guys first as I neither have the experience to know or an AR to try them out with. So here is the question - is there any chance these will actually work? Is there any point waiting to get my AR to try or should I just send them back now??

Thanks in advance - pics below.

Didn't work on mine due to a tight magwell AND it was pinned too high to even squash a useless 5th round in. Needed to re-pin.

You may find that most hardcore AR enthusiast have a riven gun in their toolkit. I figure maybe one out of every 5 mags I've bought has a botch pin job, or it's just not to my liking. With the right technique and a little practice, you'll find that it's much easier just to fix it yourself then go thru' the return hassle.

If it doesn't fit, sometimes you can just carefully file it a bit flatter. I prefer the rivet on the front cause it doesn't bind on the spring, but sometimes a little fitting can be required. A rivet on the back is easier to fit, but can bind on the spring. If the spring binds it can make for a wandering capacity.

In some cases, it might be a tight fit at first in your AR, but it'll "break in" if you will. Yeah, It'll wear the finish on the inside of your magwell, but you know what . . . after a few thousand rounds down range with 5 round mag changes, your magwell will develop a nice "patina" anyway, hah.

I have not seen any mags with the rivets countersunk. it will likely work just fine, I would wait and try it and if it doesn't work find a way to fix it.

Couple passes with a file should fix the problem. Saves you the cost of shipping them back and having them shipped back unless the dealer is covering both and you're not in a rush. Some would say it's not your problem and this is very true but it all boils down to how much hassle is it worth to you.

Very few companies follow the specification/blueprint carefully when making AR15s. As a result, magazine manufacturers, importers or vendors really should do their best to ensure the rivets don't protrude from the magazine, because they can and will drag along the inside of the mag well on out of spec guns.

TRy them first, sending back just end up costing more money for shipping and depending on the dealer in question, there might be a restocking fee as well.

Thanks again guys, on second thought I'm going to wait and try them out first. Saves me a trip to post office (for now anyway). The dealer is cooperative and will remedy the situation down the road if they don't fit the AR when it comes in. I'll post again and let you know what happened.

Oddly enough, I've had problems with the rivets using these mag pouches (no problem running the mags in my Nork CQ's)

Not sure if the non-airsoft ones have issues, but I find the rivets on my Pmags bind up when trying to remove them from the pouch.

If not for the rivet, these would work perfectly.

There you go. Just file down the rivet and it will be a perfect fit.

Anyone owning a semi-auto mag fed that has riveted reduced capacity mags needs one of these (click here). That riveter kit is on sale right now at $10.99.

For the $0.44 to $0.55 in rivets the shipping for a return isn't worth it. If the rivets cause seating or other problems then reposition them or countersink them, but you won't know until your AR arrives. Personally I'd just chalk it up to a "remember this dealer" experience and be very clear when dealing with them next time what you expect out of the product.

Unless it causes the mag to not fit the magwell these will work just as well as if the rivet was mounted on the rear spine.
