Just a "heads-up" for my fellow reloaders. With the whitetail hunt coming up here in Ontario, I started to reload some .308. I grabbed some RP and PMC brass just to see if the different brass would have any bearing on a proven load. Well! I'm loading 45 gr. of Accurate 2495. When I dumped the powder into the PMC case, it was nearly to the top, so getting into compressed load territory. I set up my other scale to check a balance beam against the electronic one, and yup, they're both at 45 gr. The same powder charge in both RP and Winchester brass leave good room for the projectile so the conclusion is obvious. Like my IVI brass, the PMC seems to have a thicker walls and less case capacity than most commercial brass. I'll keep my IVI and PMC brass for powder/projectile combinations around the 42 gr. mark. Just thought I'd share my experience.

Not surprised by your findings. I have found a lot of differences in the capacities of commercial brass. R-P 4570 I find holds less than other brands. Winchester the most. This is loading black powder in them. 223 Winchester bras in thinner than others. 30-06 Winchester brass is thinner. 38-55 I have noticed different volumes also.

Have you tried weighing cases? Thicker brass ought to show up heavier.

My first thought too. The most I’ve seen is 10 grains in a 300wsm brass I was given. Think it was Sako brass tossed it out fast. Always weigh my brass for target shooting.
