Went out this afternoon to the land I have permission to hunt west of Ottawa. Went out to check out my blind for the opening of gun season for deer tomorrow, when I start hearing shotgun shots about 500 m or so away through the woods - over the course of the next 45 mins -- heard about 6 shots circling to my right. Now I know these guys (or guy) was breaking the law for the following reasons:
1. I'm the only person with permission to hunt on these lands;
2. There is no discharge of firearms permitted on Sundays in this area; and,
3. Deer opens tomorrow and I'm sure these guys were out getting an early start!!

I didn't want to confront an armed poacher unarmed, so I went back to the owners farmhouse to call the MNR. Took me about 20 minutes after calling the OPP, City of Ottawa Police, Report a Poacher, plus 2 other numbers before I actually spoke to a live person at the MNR....and this fellow was up in Sault Ste. Marie!!

Anyways - he took my info and gave my cell number to the local MNR office and they called, but had no officers in the area....anyways I was really pissed...and I wasn't keen on heading off after these guys unarmed.

Ottawa fish cops are useless. A friend and I caught poachers while kayaking near beachburg, had pretty much the same experience playing phone tag. :evil:
 
Yes and the government in their infinate wisdom keeps shutting down MNR offices and laying off CO's.... :evil:

Try this on for size.... A former friend of mine after a DUI drove his car around for 8 months without insurance, plates in a vehicle that was a safety hazard on the road... I called the local cops, OPP and a government hotline for this :shock: .... after 45 minutes of being forward, nothing became of it. So if you want to drive drunk, uninsured in a unsafe vehicle endangering the lives of anyone around I guess it is of no concern of any agency :evil: Park your car at an expired meter and they are all over you like flies on a steaming bag of ####. :evil:
 
Buddy of mine a little north and east of Almonte, ON, living on a dirt road, experienced some slobs shooting from a vehicle (and it wasn't even hunting season)... he called the city cops... city DUH-ttawa, since we all had that stupid city shoved down our throats a few years ago... the cops told him they had no one in the area and if it happens again, give them a call.

ya ive had the almost same expearences with poachers i called the cops up but they said that they could do nuthing about it...

Most people that are sighting in do so at one location.It is unusual that they would be circling around if they were sighting in their guns.

No - they were not sigthing in. Absolutely not --- it is a fully wooded area, they were walking around....and were on private property were they didn't have permission to be. I'm 99% certain they were getting a head start on deer season...... Besides who would sight in at last light the day before season opener???? Very suspicious....
