I hope I am not asking too simple a question here or one that's been beat to death.

What has your experience been with variable power scopes regarding point of impact shift when you dial up & down magnification?

None existant or small enough to be considered so? Something to consider? Worry about it only on other brands but brand X is pretty good?

Ranges I'd be shooting are 100-400m, .308Win and considering only mildot models.

I'm primarily in the market for a good quality Leupold but am trying to decide between fixed versus variable and want to get edjumacated regarding people's POI-changing experiences.

If there is any POI sift with modern scopes, it is so small that it isn't noticeable IMHO. A shift of POI was something that people noticed in older model scopes, but I don't think that it is an issue with new model scopes, at least reasonable quality ones.

I have a few Leupold variables on rifles and I never notice any change from low power to high power.
