I just got back from the range after checking the rifle for the upcoming season.

I sighted in at 100 yards using 150 gr .308 Winchester Power Point. I was wondering if anyone knew how much the point of impact would move if I were to switch to 180 gr Power Point, or 180 gr Silvertip.

tnx mb

Nobody knows the answer to that question

The barrels ocillates (moves) while the bullet is traveling down. When you sight in for a certain load you are correcting for this movement. Another load and the barrel will be in a different place when the bullet leaves the barrel. Only way to find out is shoot it.

The point of impact might stay the same,or it might move up,down, left, right or a combination. The difference may be up to a few inches at 100 yards, and more as the distance increases.

I have to agree with stubblejumper and jasonburnsdundee. I have seen ammo of the grain but different manufacturer print 4 inches off.
You should sight-in with what you will be using for the hunt, the price of ammo is the cheapest part of the hunt.

Thanks for the input.. I was concerned about having to buy or replace ammunition on the way to or during the hunt. Sh*t does happen.

The above quote is pretty much what I thought. From the other posts it would appear that it would be possible to change loads if the need presented itself. Just keep the range to within 100 yards or so.

The shooting test will have to wait. I think it will be an interesting spring day at the range.
