seems anti-thema, but say you only load two rounds...one in the chamber and one in the mag.

I know OAL will affect ability to cycle, but what other concerns would there be? besides a lack of bullets for more than one follow up shot.

Never bothered with it much myself but I know a few folks doing so with few complaints. Like you pointed out cycling may be an issue and some bullets may not expand reliably with the low velocity.

No issues with these in my Marlin. Even when stacked in the tube magazine. ;)

FTX are the Leverevolution bullets, right? they're pointy...but not pointy. ;)

and Jim, yes, lower velocity could be a factor...but going pointy gives you many lower bullet weight options, meaning higher velocities, that should give better ballistics.

Not a recommendation, but for my .30-30 the Hornady 130gr spitzers can be loaded to provide an OAL of 2.5" so 1 in the tube magazine will cycle to the chamber. Higher downrange speeds because of the higher ballistic coefficient. Not to be stacked in a tube magazine of course.

Leverlution by Hornady.
Prolly been answered by now.
But, why load up more than one in the chamber ?
Especially if it is a hunting situation.
One shot does it .
The second for a possible follow up.
Round nose boollits have been around for a hundred years or so.

Has anybody ever tried loading spritzer bullets in a tubular magazine, or is it just an old wives tale that everybody accepts as gospel?

This would have been a good Mythbusters episode, but I don't think I'll experiment with my pre '64.

I just use the Hornady Lever Evolution ammunition...

They work great in levers, but I found their POI to be quite different than the traditional fare & you should double check if you switch over.

Cheers

I have seen first hand the effects of loading a tube mag with pointed bullets. NOT pretty!! That being said I would think the incidence of having a round set off by a bullet hitting the primer would be low, but why take the chance?

I do it all the time in my 94's, just double jack... 150 NBT's with LVR really pep up the old levers.
