Police shootout video lesson, bring enough ammo!

I have a couple of those Olongapo Grab and Go Bags, green for the 12 ga and coyote for the 20. Very good piece of kit, I've been trying to get the owner of OO to make me a couple up with just the one shell pouch on the front and a larger GP pouch at the rear of the panel for an IFAK, no luck yet. As an aside, I was informed by Brownells that it was my constant harping and #####ing tot hem that got them to finally carry the shotgun bag as prior they only carried the AR 4 cell mag pouches...

I'd like to see one with a 24 shell vertical elastic loop pouch.

Something along these lines, but with a flap lid that folds out of the way more readily.

This is why most services have replaced shotguns with patrol carbines... More capacity, greater accuracy and range.

Looks like sh!trat's High Points were jamming repeatedly. Hope the officers didn't think he was armed, otherwise I question the idea of stopping a bus full of bystanders when making an arrest. Would be safer to follow until he disembarks.

How about carry those mag-fed shotgun magazines and use it as a dispenser? I saw on CGN someone uses a product like a dedicated shotshell dispenser, seems to be a good option for carring extra ammo and ability to quickly draw extra shells

I could see them being handy, if a little slow to load from, in certain situations. However in a scenario like in the police video where you need to grab everything quickly, you'd better already have it attached to you.

Could be slow in the beginning, but if you keep it (magazine/dispenser) in a fixed position on your body (mag pouch, belt attachment, etc), and practice a lot, I can see it become a muscle memory and second nature, cause you're always drawing the shell from one spot with same move. But it needs practice, so in the scenario of grab and go it's probably not for everyone.

S&J Hardware has a little pouch bag full of those Velcro strap shell carriers. Velcro on the new loaded carrier, strip off the old one etc.

That's an interesting idea, I do like the ability to just jam my hand in the pouch and grab, - the loops would give more consistent shell orientation on the plus side, but perhaps on the negative would require a little bit more dexterity...

None of which mean a thing if you can't shoot, just more rounds to miss with. Sadly, I know of more cops who have shot the trunk of cruisers with their carbine than have actually had to shoot someone or some thing, and more than that who have made a mess of trying to shoot a deer/moose/bear/dog struck by a vehicle and have forgotten all about sight/bore offset (if they ever knew about it in the first place). The .223/5/56 will certainly do the job, but pounding a half dozen through the side of the rib cage is not the way to go about it - granted, those same folks would have been just as much a mess with the shotgun and buckshot.

When used within design parameters, you don't hear a lot about gunfights with the shotgun that take more than a round or two, it seems to be "hitting" that makes the difference (motherhood statement of the year)...

I think as far as combining the normally mutually opposing properties of accessibility and retention goes, its hard to beat the 6 shot leather belt loop system I got from Brian Hoffner.

I believe they've been discontinued but you can probably find something similar elsewhere.

The downside is that its not very space efficient, it takes up a lot of the limited amount of prime real estate where its ergonomically most convenient to grab shells.

And of course it wouldn't be particularly useful in a grab and go scenario if you weren't already wearing it.
