Got my father in law to buy this for me in Texas today but now my friends up here are jealous and want to own one as well. Is there a way to get these up here? I guess they would be prohibited or restricted?

I don't know the silly Canadian gun laws that good since I only have a non-restricted PAL for hunting and etc.

that AK pistol has a 12" barrel and our VZ shorty (above pic) has 7.5" . we couldnt get a pistol classification up here.

Wouldn't matter if you got a pistol classification - AK's and their variants are prohib by name. Pistol, rifle, it doesn't matter, if the action is AK it's prohib. (Except for the Valmets, which are specifically exempted by name)

Hmmmm..... im talking about the two shorties in the pic, they are VZ58, even with shorter barrels we couldn't get pistol class up here.

I'm not following you at all. I know that we have VZ58's with 7.5" barrels - I own one. It's restricted. But the parent firearm isn't prohib (At least until C-71 goes through) So depending on barrel length it can be either restricted or non-restricted. We don't have a specific "pistol" class in Canada that gives any advantages. Handguns are defined in the FA and fall into either restricted or prohib. AK's and variants are prohibited by name, not by barrel length, or caliber. Even if we had this declared a pistol it is still prohib because it's an AK, or if you want to be technical - an AK Variant.

I believe the reference to pistol (and yes, there is an administrative pistol classification that gives an advantage - mag cap) is simply that in the US a 12 inch AK is classed as a pistol, but here a 7.5 inch Vz isn't - purely in order to screw us out of 10 round magazines, of course.

thank you. i couldnt have explained it any better.

even if C-71 goes thru, only certain CZ858 will be prohib, not all.

btw, did you say that CSA shorty is an AK or technically an AK variant? say it aint so.

$ 449.99 USD + free shipping. Yeah, we could do that, IF a bunch of Libtards didn't totally f**k up our gun laws in the 1990's and made them absolutely nonsensical...

AK = bad in Kanuckistan. Our gun law is 100% about looks, 0% about actual mechanical function.

No, the CSA shorty is not a variant of the AK. I was pointing out that Pistol, carbine or rifle the "hellpup" is a variant of an AK - A prohibited by name firearm. The CSA shorty is a variant of the CZ858, a firearm that is not prohibited (yet). I was pointing out that it even if classified as a pistol - it's still not coming to Canada.

As to the point about magazine capacity; magazines are dealt with in a completely seperate section of the FA. Even if it was declared a pistol, that doesn't mean that 10 round magazines would be approved. We went through this a couple years ago with the CZ858. IIRC, one of the site sponsors, had an 858 from the factory built as a pistol. No problem - it can be classified as a pistol, but they still couldn't get them to approve "pistol" capacity magazines for it.

you say .... no problem, it can be classified as a pistol but it cant according to the rcmp, it was design as a rifle so it cant be a pistol no matter how short the barrel, iirc. (fenceline might be able to explain better) btw, that was my point in my original post.

Gotcha now. I was working on memory as to what the debacle was with the 858's. I remember the big todo about a "pistol" version, and remembered the end of it was that we still couldn't get "pistol" mags for the 858. Memory isn't what it once was.

Went back and re-read the thread. I finally got what you were saying from the start - sorry bud. Sometimes I just need people to talk slow and use small words. LOL :)
