Polish or Russian TT33?

Exactly what fenceline said. Both are good for shooters, but if you'd be happier with a better finish and blueing get the Polish. If you'd rather save $50-$75 (about) get a Russian.

The Polish small-arms industry has a much better reputation than the Russian one, so if quality is your selection criteria,
go with the Polish.

as well is should, the rounds are like 58 times bigger!

ive always contemplated buying one of these but they are just so hideously ugly!
im sure they shoot good...... err..... ok?

im sure ill end up buying one some day just to say ive had one.

when i think about these pistols i always come around to thinking that 30 years from now theres gonna be no ammo for them out there to be had.

In a post elsewhere it was brought up that the Polish ones use an earlier style hammer that exacerbates firing pin drag (across the primer), which may lead to early failure of the firing pin.

...and I might add: good luck finding the proper replacement pin. I never did...

the russians will always be more of a conversation piece having the soviet star and CCCP on the grips. also being from the 40's has a nice classic feel. both are great choices

I faced the same quandary and went with the Polish... For $50-75 more you get what is basically a BNIB pistol. Most of the Russians I have seen were rode hard and put away wet... I wanted to use mine for a shooter, and comparing it to several Russians my friends own the Polish was much smoother. It also shoots more accurately than any of the Russians I've handled.

You're not going wrong wither way!

The firing pin failure seems to happen most when shooting the cheap milsurp ammo. Not so much a problem with new manufactured (but pricey)7.62x25
Firing pins & split pins are available from Gun Parts Warehouse, who now deal with Canadians.

Thanks for all the replies. I very much like the idea of Russian markings but most seem to feel the Polish has better fit and finish. Would it be cheating to buy both and put the Russian grips on the Polish pistol?;) I see a new firing pin is less than twenty dollars from Gun Parts Warehouse. Thanks for that machman.

I have both. The Polish ones shoot better.

They are simple and reliable. Typical Russian designs. One of my Polish is very accurate. I would not hesitate to use it in a CQB match.

They may look ugly in pictures, but if you handle one for a bit, you will find it a nice pistol. Far less clunky than a 1911.
