Hello all,

Can anyway tell me what is the best and safest way to remove/polish off the blued off a sig 229 barrel hood?

Much appreciated!

If the barrel is actually a blued barrel you can use a regular rust remover. Blueing is a form of controlled and modified rusting. From there you can polish the bare metal with any number of options depending on the finish you want. For a brushed finish a fine sandpaper. For a mirror like finish something like simichrome or Mother's Mag Wheel polish a cloth to apply and rub it and some elbow grease to do the work for long enough to make it shine like you want.

Thanks BCrider, I also heard you can remove blushing with vinegar as well. Does anyone have any experience about that?

Someone in the 1911 sticky above said they removed the blue from their Norc by soaking it in vinegar. I don't have any first hand experience so can't say for certain. :p

recently purchase an aftermarket barrel for my stainless 229, the barrel hood is blue and just want to make it look like original (brushed polish)

I would use a buffing wheel with some white or green rouge. I've polished the barrel hood this way on a 1911 that was parkerized in about 3 minutes flat.

Yup 2nd on the vinegar and the polishing wheel with white rouge. I have done some 1911 parts with 100% white vinegar in my ultrasonic. And then used the polishing wheel for a mirrored finish
