Polishing contact surfaces

I need to smooth out the inside of the receiver on my Savage Mark II. When I slide the bolt in and out I get resistance and by touch I can feel that the surfaces are not smooth.

What's the best way to do this?

I've been using a felt polishing wheel (supposed to be for metal) and my knock-off dremel. Doesn't seem to be doing much, should I just be more patient or is it futile?

What type of polishing compound are you using.......
