polishing ruger reciever

Reading up online that polishing a Ruger take down .22 could improve accuracy.
So what do I use for polishing
What parts do I polish
Does this actually improve anything?

I can't imagine polishing is going to improve accuracy in any way... cycling maybe if there were some really rough spots... but it won't do anything for accuracy.

I also doubt polishing the receiver will help in any measurable way as far as accuracy goes. But if you want to polish the inside of the receiver, then I recommend grabbing various grits of steel wool up to 0000, and some Fitz metal polish.

I have a polished Dlask bolt - which did help mine, but I'd wager that's more a result of the trued and properly recessed bolt face, correct dimensions, and pinned firing pin than the polish job. I work over the action for action screw torque, and barrel tightness before doing anything like polishing.

Giving the rear of the bolt where it rides over the hammer more of a radius gave me noticeable improvement in accuracy and function. Gives a little better shot to shot consistency.

I've polished all of my rugers and it makes a big difference in the smoothness of the action but nothing else. I buffed the top and bottom sliding parts of the bolt and the entire top interior surface of the receiver. To buff I used 1000 grit, then 2000 grit, then polish with metal polish ... oil and ready to go
