What do you guys think of the 'blued 1911 with stainless controls' look? I am looking to replace the magazine release, and slide stop on my Norc 1911, and can't decide if I want all blued, or a few stainless parts on there to spice it up.

I find that stainless parts also show less finish wear from handling (ie. slide stop, thumb safety, magazine release).

I wouldn't use a stainless grip safety.... that a little too much stainless. Small parts as mentioned above, would be my preference... to give small accents here and there.

So... what do you think?

PS - Would you recommend going with just a standard profile GI style magazine release, or the slightly extended release (not the kind with the screw on extension like the Norc Police model comes with, but just the GI style which is a bit longer)?

Thanks!

TacticalDan.... how much did the beavertail and having him fit it cost you if you don't mind me asking? I have one on the way to Gunnar, and had considered having the beaver tail replaced, but figured it would be too expensive.

Can you post some pics???? :D Maybe some pics from underneath the rear end to show the fit of the beaver tail?

I think a few choice stainless parts on a blue 1911 can look sweet: slide stop, bushing, safety. I think Para (or another company?) offers a gun like that.

I prefer the standard slide stop and magazine release to the oversized one's offered on the Norinco Police model. The oversized slide stop wouldn't always lock the slide back at the end of a magazine and the oversized magazine release would drop the mag when I tried to reholster the pistol. YMMV.

im currently donig this!
just gotta install my new ss ambi safety, it's just a cool addition I think
especially for the STI guns who arent blued, theyre anodized or parkerized (don't know but it's not blue) and all pieces come in either blue or SS, trying to match replacement parts to the STI finish is pretty difficult so I went SS and don't regret it

I'll post pics when my pistol comes back.

Yes you should! Sounds like a nice rig you have

how do you know it's a nice rig? I didn't even mention what pieces I switched to stainless steel! You just assume it's a nice rig cause it's STI? :p

It is the entry line 1911 Spartan. But it IS however a nice rig, ARMco tuned, ss slide stop and ss ambi safety I just added to match the ss hammer and barrel
you can see it on my profile picture if you really want too, it still has the right handed safety

I prefer having the controls match the finish of the rest of the gun. Cosmetic wear from honest use doesn't really bother me.

On a two-tone gun with a blued slide and stainless or hard chrome frame, I would choose stainless controls.

I prefer all blued or all stainless small parts.... i.e. small parts matched to frame/slide.

But I do have a Norc NP-29 that I picked up a couple years back off the EE that had some after market mods applied. Stainless small parts. Shoots very well so I am not as concerned about it's "looks"..... :yingyang:
