Just want to see how prevalent the feeding/extracting/ejecting problems are on the Savage 12 and 10 series rifles that are chambered in .223rem. Seems to be reasonably widespread on the savageshooters forum.

Please not, this is ONLY for models chambered in .223REM!!!

Thanks!

Hmmmm funny,

I had a Tikka in .223 that was having ejection problems. I had my gunsmith look at it and it took him 3 tries to figure out the problem with it.

The Savage I traded it for has the same problem, drops cartridges in the chamber before it can eject them. I would be interested in a fix too.

Might have the gunsmith take a look at this one as well.

BTW mine is a Savage 12 LRPV in .223

EDIT: You need an option for "Have a problem, still waiting for a solution"

I had some feeding problems with a .223 10FP w/50gr hollowed point ammo only. FMJ's & match, no problems...

Round 2 sometimes & round 5 always wouldn't go in.

problem with a 10FP

Just picked up a 10FP in 223. feeds fine, extracts but drops the round in the port before ejecting. not sure what the problem is yet but hoping it's something simple to fix.

I had the same problem of it extracting rounds, but dropping them before actually popping them out of the rifle. I had had the rifle for over a year before I decided to do something with it, but WR Long (Savage gunsmith in Ontario) fixed it by replacing the extractor. Only thing I had to pay was shipping there.

Exactly the same here with the LRPV. My Tikka was fixed by polishing the underside of the extractor, not sure if that would help in this case or not.

i had a problem on my 12fv. it would constantly drop cases on the follower and not eject them. the problem was the extractor. if your extractor is the copper colored cast one, call savage and they will send you the new machined steel one for free. my gun was 2 years old when i finally got around to doing something about it so warranty was long over. they didn't even ask for my serial number or anything. now thats customer service. problem solved, it works 100% now.

Could not even imagine having a problem with one of these fine rifles.

My only complaint is that it doesnt grow its own ammo.

Thanx for the heads-up, I have the copper colored one and it works fine but I'll do as you say and get the up-grade.

Mine is more of a brassy color than copper but looks like it might be cast. Do you have a picture of your old one by any chance? If I get a chance I will take a pic of mine and post it.

you have the old one. the whole problem with these extractors was that they were cast and then tumbled to remove the flashing (i think thats what its called) from where the moulds meet. this resulted in the claw being more rounded and not sharp/flat like a machined one. the new ones are steel grey and are machined. you can tell by looking at the claw as well as the color. the divot on the bottom for the ball/spring has also been moved so the extractor is closer to the case. just call savage and they'll take care of you.

:DJust a follow up DKS, called Savage just now and said I was concerned about mine being a problem down the road and the new extractor is in the mail, free. Just one more reason why I'm a Savage fan.:D:D:D:D
