So last night I was over at a friend's place loading .308 handloads. He got a Poly last week from Frontier. Overall, I like the look of the Poly synthetic stock, however the forestock looks pretty cheap on the inside (thin & fragile).

I was surprised to see that the flash-hider has no holes. (the 4 or five 'slots' on the outside of the hider are not cut in). There's indentations, however they do not go all the way through to the inside.

He's wondering if this is common with the Polys? I did a quick search and didn't find anything about it on here. Does anyone else have one of these flash-hiders? Or is his a (unlikely) factory freak?

I thought those fake flash hiders were only on old Norincos. My 09 Poly has a real flash hider with slots cut through it.

sounds like they had to dig deep into the parts bins to finish those rifles off LOL
that version of the flash hider was made during U.S. import years so as to be legal in all states...... if i remember correctly

not that common to see these days but you aren't the first guy to mention one in recent imports.
rifle will shoot just fine, and if you are handy or know a good machinist.... you could have a muzzle brake like hole pattern milled into the tine recesses ;)

By doing what M14Doc suggests, you would have an advantage over those of us that have the milled flash hider. It seems to me that turning the solid flash hider into a muzzle brake would make more sense on a civi rifle.

If you were local to Thornhill, I would offer to trade a milled flash hider for your solid one.
