Poly M305 missing spindle valve

Hi all,

I'm a new shooter and just got back from the range, where my black synthetic m305 was not ejecting spent casings and such. After a good look over it seems my spindle valve is missing completely. I did notice the hole when I looked the rifle over originally but being that I'm a bit of newb I didn't think anything was amiss.

Has anyone else had this issue where they didn't get one either? I've emailed where I bought it from so hopefully they can help me sort it out. Not as much fun otherwise!

take a picture- or pull up fm 23-8 - if that's the case, it shouldn't have left the factory

if you look at the gas system , just aft of the gas cylinder assy( where the piston resides) there's what looks to be a screw head on the right side - that's the spindle valve- it turns the gas system on and off, used for launching grenades-in the horizontal position, regular operation in the vertical
ref field manual fm 23-8, page 24, figure 35- if you don't have the porper field manual, i suggest you print that up from the net- it's invaluable and contains some stuff the manual the chinese doesn't
 
Yes, you are missing the spindle valve, spindle valve spring and retaining pin. Take it back to the dealer. Frankly it's an easy fix, if you have the parts, but who knows what the Kommunists ship those Kanuckistanis....

Keep us posted on how this problem shapes up. Don't suffer in silence. :(

Thanks for the support Hungry! :) I was hoping to get it in for a tune with the M14Doctor so hopefully the dealer can ship me the replacement parts for him to put in there. Probably less time/hassle than me shipping it back to them across a few provinces. I have emailed them and won't besmirch their name before hearing back on how they would like to resolve it. I'm sure it'll be taken care of, but dang I was looking forward to a fun day at the range!

Otherwise it did shoot great with me manually operating the bolt. Any inaccuracy was due to the novice shooter I'm sure ;). I was just afraid that there might have been more to it causing an issue so I thought it was better to cut the range trip short.

Here's a pic. It's where you see the slotted head.

It shuts off the gas flow, if you want to shut off the gas flow (to enable you to shoot grenades and such). You'd just push in and rotate that slotted head 90 degrees. The other side has a roll pin that rests in a recess.
(On some Norinco models that I've seen the roll pin was too long to allow the spindle valve to be turned.)
 
Are the parts by chance in the plastic bag that the rifle came in? Could they have worked themselves out during shipping or maybe when you cleaned to cosmo off the rifle?
 
i would suggest not- this is a valve , spring, and pin arrangement- HIGHLY UNLIKELY to "come out on it's own"- more likely not to installed in the first place- if the parts bin was dry and this step was missed, the persons assembling the rifle wouldn't know if it was good, bad or indifferent- it's more than probable the piston, housing and whatnot are assembled to the gun as an entire unit, and if that unit is missing any parts it doesn't show up till final inspection , if there is one- conceveably, you could get ones with just the housing and no parts, ones with missing pistons, etc- what's more than likely is that there's two bins, one for good, one for rejects, and this got thrown into the wrong bin-
 
Update - well the M14 is getting a tuneup at the M14Doctor's, but no replacement spindlevalve from the store as of yet. Apparently one was sent out but Canadapost lost it.

I'm thinking I may have to buy one out of my own pocket and that is pretty annoying. I don't think I'll be buying any more firearms from internet sites, just too much hassle if something goes wrong. I really should have just sent it back and gotten a refund from the start, but then that would have also cost me the shipping costs.

Sorry for the complaining, I'm usually much more of a cheery person, but unfortunately this episode has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I'm not even sure who I should be annoyed with!

It'll be worth it once I get a replacement and have the nice tuned up rifle out to the range, I'm sure!

I'll "pay it forward" at the range by letting interested parties try out my (soon to be freshly tuned) M14! :)

oh and :cheers: at the next west coast seminar! (hint hint!)
