Polymer .45s: S&W’s M&P45 Beats H&K/Glock: Gun Tests

Take it all with a grain of salt . If a writer doesn't write , he doesn't get paid and without a fresh article the magazine doesn't sell . The most noteworthy thing in the article is the admission that they find a new best gun every few months . By next spring it will be the new Heckler&Glock chambered in the fantastic .357 Sierra but it also has a sharp edge to critisize. Every lawman and soldier will love it for at least 3 months until Springfield Sauer comes out the the final version of the 1911 chambered in the .40 Zumbo. Smith , like all of the rest will sell thier guns below the cost of production to police and military agencies knowing that the civilians will line up to pay top dollar for a real cop/army/secops/ gun and that's where the real money is made.

The .45ACP on something other than a 1911?

I'd like to try a S&W M&P in .45ACP to see if it could make me see that the 1911 is not the only suitable platform for that ctg.

I know the last time I tried that was with a Ruger P90 .45ACP and it didn't even come close. Funny, I always wanted to try a CZ 97 in .45ACP, too but that has eluded me thus far, too.

The only S&W firearms worth talking about are some of their revolvers. I've yet to see a decent firearm from S&W, probably because their quality control is a joke. S&W = $#!t :D

I'm guessing you own a usp45.

I still love my M&P 40. It's been reliable and pretty accurate for me.

I had a slight issue with the mag release dumping the mag on recoil occasionally (mine is one of the early guns). When I finally got around to emailing S&W about it they had a new release in my hands by the end of the week free of charge.

I love my M&P 40. I was out plinking yesterday, and was making decent hits (3/10) on a steel pig at 100m. I never thought I would be able to do that. The gun is light, dead reliable, accurate and compact. I love it.

sure it does, some guns have more inherent accuracy that others. AR vs AK?

Correct. Inherent or intrinsic accuracy is one factor. proclaiming one firearm is more accurate than another proves nothing than the ability of said shooter to operate said firearm.

I've witnessed many shooters miss the target at 5 yards with rimfire pistols. I've also seen several shooters hit 8" steel plates at 100 yards with their stock handguns. So which is more accurate?? Its the shooter, not the gear.

If you want to test inherant accuracy stick it in a Ransom rest with the best loads possible . A solid bench with the gun and forearms supported on sandbags is the next best test . That shows inherant accuracy or what the pistol is capable of doing under perfect or near to perfect conditions eliminating the human factor , or as much as possible . After that , it's the shooter.

I've always wanted a .40 Zumbo, didn't know Springfield had finally joined uo with Sig Sauer....

It's like Christmas all over again:D

I had my mags dumping every 50 rounds. Meaning that I'd go 50 rounds and then have to replace the mag release spring. Went thru replacement springs every 50 rounds twice (under warranty of course) before the problem went away. I was majorly bummed, but it's been approx. 150 rounds since the last spring with no more problems and I am now rebuilding my love for this handgun...
