Polymer VZ58 mags?

Maybe this is a stupid idea...but the only real downside IMO to the VZ58/CZ858 rifles is the kinda thin aluminum mags.

I got to thinking that you guys had polymer SIG mags made, right?

Could a cost-effective polymer VZ mag be built, like the Bulgarian polymer AK mags and Magpul (and now Tango Down) mags?

I know the VZ mag is a little wonky with its hold-open channel so I don't know how practical this idea is.

But I would love to get my hands on robust polymer VZ mags. Maybe they wouldn't be cost effective in the US market where surplus mags are ten or twelve bucks but spare VZ mags here are over thirty, and that is just for factory thin aluminum.

I'd pay $30-40 for pmag-grade VZ mags. I bet others would as well...that would be pretty badass.

Or would the funky VZ mag be too expensive to manufacture?
 
nothing wrong with the factory mags, just the price, they can be has at source for a few $ ea but i,m told it cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to have someone stick a rivit in them?.........
 
The factory mags are okay but I think they are probably the weakest point on the gun...although I don't think they are catastrophically weak and intend to keep using mine unless something better comes along.

The people who have seen them used in conflict do often mention the mags taking a bit of a beating, though. I think they are better than the old AR mags, but not as strong as AK or modern polymer AR mags.

Good point , but they at least as good as the $50 colt ar15 mags i have.
 
I've got 10's of thousands of rounds through 12 mags.. they're still going strong.

I would like to see more 5/10rnd mags though., they're great for hunting.

I don't doubt that a VZ mag can be good for a lot of use...nor do I doubt that they are better than some of the old Colt mags.

But every chain has a weakest link, and I believe the mags are the weakest link on the VZ, even if they are not all that weak. I think tougher mags would make the VZ a serious champ of a rifle.

Might pick up a couple o' steelies, see how they feed etc.
 
How about polymer 10 shot AR pistol mags? ProMag makes those types of magazines if you need a looksie. Short 10 shot where the baseplates lock into each other with one mag up, one down. Even a supply of affordable 5/32 ProMags would do. Or cheap Uzi magazines from Israel?
 
If someone were to get a polymer VZ mag project off the ground I would suggest it be in a 20rd sized mag body rather than the 30. Since it will be pinned to 5 there is no need for the larger mag.

edited to add - In retrospect I imagine if something like this were to happen Canadians would only be a part of the market, so a 30 would be more desirable for clients in other countries.

Another example of competition bring prices down.:p

I'd buy 10 Steel mags.


30 round mags are a little big. A 20 or even 15 round (size) would make the Rifle more manageable when out in the wilds.
