Polymer80 80% AR builds

Take this with a grain of salt as I don't own one and don't plan on it due to the following:
They don't really serve a purpose given you need to register them anyway and a real aluminium 'prebuilt' lower will run around the same cost and last infinitely longer.
Look for videos/reviews of them. They really don't stand to much abuse. Typical point of failure is area where the buffer tube screws in.

yes, if you are planning to keep it legal, going the 80% polymer direction is kinda exspensive.
I can sell you the same thing come completed 3arlowers for $100.

Most people won't post because pretty much guaranteed the primary reason people get them is to have an unregistered lower

Gave one a shot.. milled the walls a bit too thin and poked my finger through the plastic. Expensive mistake. Although it is a nice concept being able to add your own designs. Good learning experience, and a good excuse to upgrade my tools!

Well when you retire and suddenly find yourself with lots of extra time on your hands it might be fun to build a AR from scratch I figured. The newest ones are supposed to have been strengthened to address the breakage problem. Already got a nice running Colt 6920 so It's not like I don't have a reliable AR to run already anyway.

Just wondering if anyone has built/registered and shot one yet? And if so how did it go? If the Polymer isn't that good I guess aluminum 80% might be the way to go instead.

Using one with a .22 conversion kit or upper would remove most stresses on the buffer tube area.

Nothing wrong with the polly lowers
But they benifit from being injection molded
Machining. Something like that and thin as an ar from is in some spots it not wise.

As for it not being strong enought, other then the buffer tube area. There is little stress on an AR lower when assembled.

Gee, thanks for lining people up to chuck them under the bus.

Some people like to tinker with things and gain a deeper understanding of how firearms work. Some of us like a challenge. Building your own is just one more way to broaden the experience.

Lots of people build their own house, but why, when you could get some crappy contractor to do it for you. It'll look just like every other house on the block, but you should just conform to society and not ask questions or enrich your life.

Go to work, pay your taxes. Nothing to see here, move along.

Drilling a couple of holes isn't something you do for a great sense of accomplishment. If that's what you want try carving a lower out of a tree stump or something. You may not like it, but I think you will find my first statement pretty much accurate
