Well its finally together !

I wasn't sure i was going to be able to gather all the components in time for hunting this season. I would like to thank the following for assisting me with putting together my latest "toy" : WSS (rifle), ATRS (scope, rings, rail, muzzle break & gunsmith), and all the CGN members that sold me components on the EE.

Shes a little heavy to hunt with in this configuration so i might slip her back into the Remington Stock.

placed a factory .223 to the right for size comparison.

Now i just have to wait for my eyes to heal up and i can go lob some rounds down range.

Poor mans???? Hmmm I guess yours and my definition of poor man is a little different lol. Or are you poor after building it?

Its a canadian made "benchrest" bipod, $$$ but beautiful craftsmanship.

Makers name and contact info is here : (post #10)

"Poor mans Lapua" due to it being chambered in .338 RUM :D

OD with the stainless kinda looks cool. 338 RUM is more practical to me than the 338LM. You can get Remington Brass which is not as good as Lapua but still reliable and fairly consistent. And the ballistics are similar to the 338LM. A couple more clicks on you scope when adjusting for elevation is not big deal really. Its only 3.5 grains less of powder.

Bet your Savage handle never fell off :D Sorry, not funny...
There appears to be a screw through the handle into the bolt body. I'm not a fan of that mod and apparently it didn't work out too well if so. TIG welding the handle on is no big deal, a good man to do it may be hard to find though. Dan Armstrong is one of the best.

Well i took her out to the range, just started to collect my load data and wouldnt you know it.....

Was that a factory weld or did someone re-weld the bolt handle.

If it was re-welded, I would take it back to whomever did the work and have them fix it.

If it was a factory weld, I would contact Remington and have them pay for the repair costs.

Its the factory solder i am pretty sure, I believe the small screw is stripped out as well. Not sure remington will warranty as i had a oversized bolt handle attached.

If i am going to attempt to fix this here "locally", i still have to get the bolt out !!

I have sent a email to ATRS, hope they can help or point me in the right direction.

Worst part is this was my designated "Island Elk" rifle. Not sure if i'm going to be able to get it up and running again before opening day....

The up side is it did happen at the range vs. on a hunt.

The last shoot I went to, I watched a member of the board here, smash his Savage bolt handle right off with his bare hands. I love Savages, too, but they aren't invincible.

Damn that sucks, first day out, hope you can arrange something quickly.

If that situation was in Selkirk during the precision match earlier this summer that was a model 25.

Just wondering if we are thinking of the same occurrence.

EDIT: Seems like Timberwolfe was there too

I have never seen the factory install a screw in the handle. I think that was added. Rick should be able to get that apart and fixed. He would only need the barreled action. I don't think Remington repairs bolts, they replace parts.

I think the last cartridge fired was a little too hot.

This fellow is excellent but only wants the bolt shipped --> Dan Armstrong is one of the best. ["www.accu-tig.com"]

The rifle is brand new from remington, after receiving it is shipped it to ATRS for the break and the Bolt Knob. I then monted the action in the AICS stock and took it to the range, I was zeroing the scope and testing some loads when the bolt handle came off. The last five rounds out of the rifle were factory federal vital shocks (stated muzzel velocity is 3020) i was cronographing them at 3100.

I have emailed Rick at ATRS and the action is now on its way to him
