Poor mans low profile gas block

Has anyone took a dremel to their FSB and made a poor mans low profile gas block? If so how did it turn out?

I took a bench grinder to one of mine and it came out just fine.

I took a grinder to mine, turned out great! I painted it with Black engine paint and baked it in the oven.

Turn out very well. Take your time and it's better than an aftermarket gas block

I did mine with a dremmel and worked great, the hardest part was getting the front sight pins off my norc, they were stuck right in there.

The original Colt Elite Rifle uses a cut down FSB and we used to do this regularly on the older builds before all the options became available.
Hacksaw,grinder,file will work. Last one I did I used a mill to CLEAN cut it.It can even be done without removing FSB if needed.
Not as "slick" looking as some of the new kit but VERY functional

Did mine with a dremel without removing the FSB... just put the upper in a vice and hack away. I sprayed it afterwards with a bbq-type paint to avoid rusting.

Okay well I just did it. I didn't remove the FSB from the upper, just took the dremel to it. I also hacked off the bayonet lug and the sling studs. Took quite awhile to make it look good. I painted it after with Tremclad high heat enamel flat black. The paint is rated to 1200 F so it should work. It looks pretty good I'll take pictures later and post em.
