So this year for bears I am going to give the old popcorn a try for bait. For those who have used this before, how much time do I have after popping before the popcorn goes bad or gets moldy? Got a bunch going to be popping up this weekend, our bear season doesnt start until september here in Nova Scotia, I dont want to pop it if it will go bad. Have a lot to pop so just want to try to get a head start on baiting this year. Thanks, Trevor.

I think it goes stall or loses its smell after a short while. My beagles won't eat any old popcorn when I clean under the couch cushions, and they love it when its fresh, and they're beagles, they eat anything.

Get a part-time job as a custodian at a movie house, and you'll have all the popcorn you'll ever need, after the nightly sweep-ups.

Bears eat garbage,,,,,,,,,don't worry about fresh. It works great for bait ...we get ours free from excess popped stock from several movie theaters.Garbage bags full....A lot lighter to carry than several skinned beavers. This year we also mixed fryer fat with molasses and oats.Bait lasts the season with a small 3" hole midpoint of a barrel chained to a large spruce so they can knock it around to feed..people make the mistake of cutting too big a hole in their bait barrels ..........paint surrounding trees with bacon drippings...Harold

Sounds like a Jenny Craig diet for the bears...

Pop it right into bags or barrels and seal it and it's good for months. This year I popped 6 barrels in January because I had the time. Sealed it up and it was fine. Last season was the same. The bears hit it hard and don't seem to care. I'm anal and hate doing things last minute. Bears aren't snobs when it comes to popcorn.
