I'm not a precision shooter, or LR for that matter, as I don't have access to any open spaces bigger than 300m. But I have been looking for a stable portable bench rest for plinking at the farm or in the bush. Something that's not dedicated to target shooting only and useful in other scenarios for less than $200. Currently I use a workmate with a small drafting stool but it's low for me and to small a work surface for my liking.

I spotted this last night and picked it up at Canadian Tire. It's on sale for about half price this week at $130.
MAXIMUM 4-in-1 Work Platform: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-4-in-1-work-platform-0611050p.html

As it's a 4-1 work table that also has a power bar and can be used as a car creeper/dolly I'm hoping it fit's the bill. It's high enough and holds up to 330lbs. It folds up and has a carry handle, about the size of two briefcases. The only modification I might do is to add extra pin holes to lock in the legs at different heights so I can better level it on uneven surfaces.

Probably not good enough for the pros but I hope someone else finds this useful and handy.

Unfortunate the designers don't design a 3 legged bench to stand firm on any surface especially for field shooting

You can buy a 29.99 Job mat portable bench and then put a different table top. I made one out of 3 x 3/8" shelving glued together. Folds pretty flat

Got any pics?

Its the small one on the left with the vise on it. I mainly made it for reloading but if you add a bigger table top I'm sure it would work. Cheaper then something 100$ +

I think I paid less then 40$. I mean you can normally get MDF shelving for dirt cheap. Just glue each panel together, to the thickness you want. Then got your self a real rock solid cheap table top. Then I just bolted it to the bench. Fold down to the size of a regular old job mate.

Already have one, used it up to now. I'm tall and have long arms and find it to short even with sand bags. This CT table is higher and wider and seems more stable, but I have yet to shoot from it. It also takes up a little less space in the back of the car as it folds up tighter.

Anything I found from CT that folds isn't that stable.

It locks in place in the legs, braces, and extensions. I'm a big guy and it holds me well and is stable. Using it to shoot should be no issue.

At the end of the day I'm just sharing what I found, how it's working for me so far, and how I like it. You don't like it, don't buy it, no difference to me either way. You have questions on stability, test one at the store or bring one home and put it through it's paces. Good thing about CT is the return policy and you have one in every town in Canada you can return it to.

As I said, I don't see the point in buying a stand for $200+ that looks like a kids school desk or is only useful as a shooting platform. This covers my needs, is as portable, if not better, than a workmate/jobmate, and is easy to travel with or pack away in the garage. I wouldn't pay full price for one but $130 isn't that bad based on the above.

If it fails to perform when I take it out in a few weeks, once I get the new rifle, I'll update the thread.
