me and a couple army buddy's are going to do a hunt/portage trip this September in northern Ontario for 2 weeks. were looking for crown land areas that are far enough out that we wont be having to worry about other people in the area(don't want some random person walking up busting our hunt). where's a good area where there's lots of small lakes and bush on crown. were going to ruck our gear and portage around changing sites every 5-6 days. need an area that has a good amount of small game too.

cheers

Check the MNR land atlas and compare to the WMU maps to see whats in season ,you literally have millions of options. You can fly in or jump the train depending on how adventurous you want to be.

I can tell you this...... The best vacation I have her had was with my oldest son... It meant leaving southeastern Ontario and driving the 17 with a small John boat in tow..... We left here and stopped at every small lake with a rest stop along the 17 and fished it...... I had a cooler full of food and a Coleman stove for cooking as well as a portable propane fire pit.... We hauled in countless sauger, trout and even the occasional crappie / perch...... When we got to Ivanhoe (our final destination), we had great walleye fishing and first class grouse hunting...... We stayed at "air Ivanhoe"...... You can rent a cabin there that sleeps 4 or 12 creatively :).....

Plan to replicate it with him soon with him apprenticing this year.....

Look northwest of Sudbury in wmu 38, lots of lakes, easy enough access to quiet areas to hunt and fish. The bird hunting is excellent and you should be able to get into some good pike, walleye, lakers, and specs.

nothing other than rabbits, squirrels, partridge and doing alot of fishing but im open to suggestions
also any water purification pump preferences

Another reason to live it where I live, many lakes you can see bottom in 30' plus of water, and it's cold year round. I couldn't be bothered filtering or using chemicals to "purify" perfect water lol.

Have been reading this thread and getting a chuckle as it reminds of the weekend Rambo boys we used to get in the area of our old hunt camp. A couple young fellas from the city who had watched to many Rambo movies and the like and played one to many likewise video games used to come to the area of the camp and attempt to play survivorman in the bush. They tried deer hunting out of a small nylon tent one time and cooking in it like they probably seen some fellas doing on the discovery channel. They burnt the tent to the ground and lost all there gear. They walked back to there car and left everything that remained, mainly a pile of half melted plastic a charred pots etc.
The next time we seen them was the following year when one of the fellas seen tracks in the snow going under a large spruce who's bows swooped down to the ground. He went over to investigate and found the pair of them nesting under the spruce all decked out in camo clothing, faces painted. They said they we doing a little wilderness survival camping. They were about 50yds. from the road and there vehicle at the back of an old grave yard. We just left them alone, several days later there car was gone.
A couple years later I was crossing the river on the old bridge with the quad when I see big ripples in the water and hear splashing. Thought maybe there was a moose in the river, nope it was the Rambo boys swimming to wards me holding onto there packs and rifles. There army surplus rubber raft had just ran out of air. Apparently they had punctured it aways up the river and it just finally sank about 20ft. from the bridge. So I helped get them and there stuff up on the trail and back up the road a piece to there car. Again all dressed in camo gear with painted faces. They had been out on the lake for a week living off what ever they could shoot with there 22's. I offered to take them to camp so they could dry out and warm up, but they declined, got in there car soaken wet and headed back to the city. There was snow on the ground and bits of ice in the river at the time. Seemed to be pleasant enough fellas, harmless to everyone except themselves. In my opinion neither of them I would say were playing with a full deck.

Anyways good luck Rebelson and company on your wilderness endeavours. Do please post on here the results of your adventures, it shall be a interesting read I am sure.
