I apologize if this has been discussed before but when I searched it I found nothing.

One of the semi auto shotguns I am considering has a factory ported barrel. From what I have read porting a shotgun has very limited benefit. What I am hoping someone can tell me, does the additional heat exhausting thru the porting holes cause any sight picture distortion?

Makes little differants in sight picture. Porting was designed to control muzzel jump. making it is easier to move the gun to the second target. It is mostly a muti barrell thing, found on O/Us.

Agree had my 870 TB trap done probally in the 70's and it definately helped on doubles.

I'm wondering if the barrel heats up from putting a bunch of rounds through it you would not end up with heat distortion waves similar to the barrels with no vent rib?

Thats why gun manufactures invented the vent rib barrel.
But, has anyone ever fluted a shotgun barrel?
It works on center fire rifles, does it not ?
The previous above two lines are tongue in cheek.
What are you worried about?
Are you shooting competition or are you taking care of the zombie invasion in your hood?
I would hazard a guess that any heat distortion would be the least of your worries.
Seriously you may need to have your eyes checked if your having target acquisition with the implied heat distortion you speak of.(I am not a doctor)
I have shot a semi auto Browning Sporting with ported barrel 3 back to back rounds of sporting clays one afternoon and had no issues of not being able to pick up targets do to heat distortion.
Your results may vary.

No problems with my eyes, I didn't say I've experienced the heat distortion, I was asking if anyone who owns such a shotgun barrel has, but your Browning experience answered my question.
