What is up with all the slingshots in these cartoons? Were the mosquitos that big (LOL)?

It was a comic shot at Salazar who allowed the use of slingshots and miniskirts, believe it or not.

Interesting to see these. There are a couple of YouTube videos with period video of the troops in Mozambique and Angola and, surprisingly, you see quite a few 1937 and 1941 contract Mausers along with a a few Kropatscheks amazingly enough. It really was there own version of Vietnam.
