I talked to Dave from Neit about this, but thought I'd post here to get some more feedback (Charles Martel, you out there ;))

Just got and installed my NEA Rail Clamp, as pictured
IMG_0102.jpg

Seems it won't fit on the Gas Block like I thought. I forget the actual numbers of diameter, but I measured with my Calipers and it was ~.300mm difference in width (Gas Block being wider).

Is this how its supposed to fit, just in front of the block? Just curious,

Thanks.

From my understanding, the rail was meant to go over top of the gas block. However, one of the big problems with designing parts for the VZ58 family of rifles is that HUGE variations in dimensions. Especially in the cast and forged components. When you're dealing with a cast or forged part where the outer dimensions don't matter, then you can have massive tolerances and variations in the sizes.

I can tell just by looking at the picture that your rail is crooked. I would use the gas block to line the rail up as best you can with the top handguard, but don't let it actually touch the gas block.

I have the exact same problem.Seems some VZ's have a higher gas block then others.I was told to just move the clamp forward a bit, which would work.I just really wanted mine to sit on the gasblock like it was supposed to not infront of it.Thinking of dremmeling the little side walls of the grove on the clamp down.

Was optioning that too. but I just paid $70 for this and I feel that the hard work and pride put into it far outweighs my home gun surgical skills. I'll keep it forward.

Yeah, I'm now seeing the tilt forward too (if that is what you are referring to). I had a Troy flip up extended on it last night and was doing the ol' look down the rail to make sure it was good for "roll" (flush/same plane as upper rail), but now I'll fix for "Pitch".

There are two gas blocks on VZ's. One is stepped up like the picture above and one is not. The majority in Canada are not stepped.

I do have one VZ that is stepped, to installed the barrel clamp i moved it forward untill it was touching the gas block but not angled.

I turned mine upside down to mount my flare launcher.
f:P:
And my cat's breath smell's like cat food.

Wow dude, not really the productive post to the thread I'm looking for here- I'm talking about placement of the clamp over the gas block.

Don't hijack my thread.

sorry but mine seemed a little tight on top of the gas bock but nothing real major. When I placed it over the gas block, I tightend down the the bolts the same as a car tire in a crossed pattern and it worked fine. The flare launcher came later.

Well on advice from the designer and manufacturer himself

.

I'll keep it forward and not tighten the #### out of it over the gas block.

Thanks for your input

Alright guys, common sense here, if it tightens up on the gas block before it tightens on the barrel, you have a problem. If it is visible crooked, stop tightening it down.

Who am I kidding. Half the people on this board can't even put their pants on in the morning. You're all doomed.
