Possible cause of this issue? Fired brass has gaz leaks by the primer pocket

All major corporations outsource their production from time to time, sometimes with disastrous results,I'm sure both Win and S&B did that from time to time but would they admit if there was a problem?

Primer pocket cleaning has nothing to do with it,if anything when seating new primer old crude will get scraped off and cause new primer to seat a bit higher but still below case level.

This pierced primer problem started over 4yrs ago. Doesn't seem like they ever recalled the affected lots eh? I couldn't find any warning/press release on their website.

They could at least say if they ever fixed their problem or not... I wonder how recent are the lots that are still causing issues?

I've not had any problems with their small pistol primers. Is this issue only with the large rifle primers?

Auggie D.

Haven't seen or heard of it in pistol primers, but small rifles have had the same issue as large, I got 2,000 bad small rifle, and that's what marked up the bolt on my BRNO.

Win LR primers are CRAP! same thing happened to me and etched pits in the bolt face of my new Tikka .. My favourite primer by far is the Russian made DA from Can ammo , They never leak or flatten on me even with very hot loadings, VERY strong primers .

I had this same problem with Winchester primers. There's a company in Canada called Graywood Sporting Goods. They're the Canadian Winchester reps. I sent multiple emails to Winchester and finally they put me in touch with Graywood. In the end I sent my primers to Graywood, and they sent then to Winchester. I was reimbursed with two $50 Winchester gift certificates. Supposedly good wherever Winchester products are sold. Guess we'll see if retailers will be OK with it.
