Possible to uncrew ocular/eyepiece too far?

Out of curiousity (and caution/due diligence), when adjusting the reticle focus, is it possible to inadvertently unscrew the ocular/eyepiece too far and loose the gas purge? In other words, can the ocular housing be removed simply by continuing to unscrew it from the scope body? I would think that there's be a snap ring or other retaining mechanism to stop this from happening, but while looking at a couple of my Bushnell and Leupold scopes, I couldn't see anything.

My question applies to both fast focus and standard locking ring eypieces.

Just tried it with a Bushnell that I had here and it has a stop.

My conquest and S&B has a stop. My Tasco doesn't and the eyepiece comes right off... ><

I have always noticed a defined stop going in both directions on my scopes as i tend to have it backed out almost all the way for my eyes. You may be able to overcome the stop if you tried hard enough, but you shouldn't have any reason to twist that hard in the first place.
If there isn't a stop i think something is probably broken/wrong and the scope should be suspect at the very least

Thanks for checking out your scopes, guys. Best advice is probably to avoid unscrewing the eyepiece too much, even if you're curious. I can only imagine the "oh sh*t" feeling if it were to come off.
