Hey folks I picked up a Baikal IZH-18mh even with the worst trigger I've experienced it shoots like a house on fire. Anyone else deer or black bear hunting with a 7.62x39?
If I can get the trigger improved it will be going hunting some this fall.

I don't have pictures, but i was lucky enough to find a Norinco Bushranger in 7.62x39 on the EE a while back. After a few trips with it to the range it might replace my .308 for most of my deer hunting anywhere but the fields

Trigger seems to be getting better, I may have to pick up some cheap surplus and shoot it every evening for a week or so and see if it gets any better but it may still need a bit of work to clean up the creep and excessively heavy pull to make it acceptable for hunting.

I've got to agree with MattLS... The hornady ballistic tip stuff is quite good and very reasonable. We shot a wild boar with 7.62x39 - tough critter but it worked well.

I also dogged with a mini 30 stainless. I was 1 of 4 in my old part that used 762x39, every year at least one of the boys with an sks would bag a whitey

I've have a Ruger M77 in 7.62x39 and it is a great rifle. I don't use it much due to most of my hunting being in bear country, in which case I carry my 338win M77. However, I have taken a couple deer with it in farm country and it worked perfectly on a mule deer doe at about 200m and a WT buck at about 75m using federal factory hunting ammo. The only problem is that I can't seem to find this ammo any more and it was very accurate in this rifle. I have repeatedly put 5 shots into less than 2" at 200m with this rifle and ammo combo.

I have never been a big picture taker. I have however, taken several deer with the x39mm round. One buck and two does with an SKS, one buck and one doe last year with a remington 799, and my wife shot her first deer with an SKS.
nothing wrong with the round.

Fiddler - awesome photo all the way. Congratulations.

OP - Sorry to say, I don't photograph much, and my SKS is my truck gun for opportunistic shots, if that counts as hunting.
