Picked up a post-war (08/58) Walther P38 a little while ago on consignment, heck of a deal, but I've got a problem (well, two problems, but we'll get into that another time).

The Safety/Decocker is not functioning properly. When the hammer is down, the safety works fine, blocks the hammer just fine. However, when the hammer is cocked, the safety get jammed about 3/4 of the way down, doesn't fully engage, and doesn't decock.

I did a full detail strip and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, for what thats worth having never had one of these apart before, and reassembled and it's still doing it.

STOP! Do not use that decocker!!!! It may be one of those out of spec Forced Slave Labour WW2 part's like in my old Walther H.P. As Ganderite said, I decocked it with my thumb if decocking was even necessary, so never once used the decocker on a live, chambered round. I put about 3000 rounds through that German gun.

However when I sold it for $150 bucks to a co-worker( it was 1986 mind you), he put a round into the ground almost between both of us trying to decock the F'ing thing after only two rounds fired! I said "WTF did you do,...lose the hammer:eek:??" He said "No, I just did this",.....Kaboom,... the GD decocker dropped the hammer and fired again(imagine the slide cycling under his thumb twicef:P:)!! I said stop,... take your finger out of the trigger guard and give me that thing back right now, but he wouldn't hear of it as he wanted it so bad and had a good deal, or so he thought, and it's still in his possession the last I heard. I never did get to see if it was sabotaged or just worn out or whatever.

I'm not saying this is what's wrong with yours, just a silly story you might want to hear about "supposedly" sabotaged safeties and the like getting through on German late war firearms caused by sneaky forced labor workers from other countries and how you can lose toes with German Automatics, hence no Battle Field pick-ups please..:p
