is there such a thing as a post war P38? Or is anything made after 1945 actually a P1? my 1958 gun is stamped "P38" but some other owners said it should be a P1.
Any ideas?

I believe there were post war P38's, these would have the steel receiver, the same as WW2 pistols, the P1 had a light weight aluminum receiver.

P 38 were built post war with alloy frames for different police forces...
P1 means: Pistole 1, first pistol of the new army, the Bundeswehr.
Both pistols were/are basically the same...
the only difference was in the name, however later the P1 received the hexagoal steel bolt to reinforce the frame...

I had an ex-Interior Ministry post war P-38. It was steel framed, dated in the 60s. Most definitely marked P-38, not P-1.

OK cool, my slide is definatly steel. It is also stamped with a little crown, which I am led to belive means it was used by the police force. Anyone else get hit in the forehead by hot brass? is there some way to adjust this?
