Finished my precision rifle trainer project. The stock had a few nicks from too many gopher outings, and the wood grain was not one of Anschutz best to begin with. Decided to drill a few holes, refinish the stock and get it dipped. Turned out great.

  • Anschutz 1517 HB 17 HMR
  • QD flush cups in the stock
  • Grovtec QD rail
  • Hydrodip in Multicam

That's a nice looking rig. Shame it's not a 22LR then you could come shoot the SAPRL 22 rimfire match in July

I use a basic Ruger American in .22 LR and get clover leaf groups at 50 yards with CCI tactical ammo - but I can't post a pic.

For targets:

I've printed tons of them, and keep coming back to them. These targets come from the Czech Republic where they are used in “Smallbore Sniper Rifle” competitions.
They are at the bottom of the page as downloadable zip here

I'm afraid I don't know what "too many gopher outings" means...because there is no such thing. :) Nice-looking rig though!

I understand in principle the "Trainer" idea, but I bought this as a fun shooter...and potential/future gopher-slayer. Anschutz 64 MP R "Tactical Trainer" in 22LR. It's wearing a Weaver V-16 (Target dot reticle), sitting on a 20MOA rail. Ridiculously accurate rifle, with the finest trigger I've ever had the pleasure of using....and I've used some pretty nice ones. This rifle has printed some tiny groups, but has also turned an "anti" into a person looking to get their PAL. lol Something about bullets going exactly where they should just puts a smile on your face. :)

I still look to getting a Anschutz 64 like the above one day thanks for the pics ang congrats

Thanks silverfoxdj! Still pretty stoked about it, though it hasn't seen the light of day since the snow started flying. lol Soon enough though. I have some Eley ammo to try with it, my LGS just started stocking Eley.

My first precision rimfire rifle was a Savage Mk2 TR.
It was bone stock and it was a good shooter/trainer.

I sold it and had regrets about it.

Then a couples years after, I bought another Mk2 but this time, a BRJ.
This one had all the bells and whistles, DIP rail, trigger guard, mag bottom metal and torx screws set and a Appache trigger kit and a Boyds Pro-Varmint stock as well.
It was a very nice ninja rifle !

Then I sold it and again I had regrets.

Since, I've owned several higher quality rifles but I think the Savages makes good precision trainers.

I think I might built another one in the future and if I do so, it will be a BSEV barreled action with a Rifle Basix trigger.
