I came across this pic while doing some early 1911 research. It was recovered from the site of the 1916 Battle of the Somme and resides in a museum there. There is an American flag attached to the shot but I think it is more likely this was a Canadian or British pistol. Do you have any pics of war relic guns? Maybe post some here. This one felt moving for some reason....

I've got this one: engraved with owner's name/rank/etc. Tracing its history and think i have its owner pinpointed but don't have the details about his activity during the war pieced together in a coherent way yet. I started looking into it because of the story the previous owner told me about it. There is a comment in a record from 1916 stating E H Newman was hit by shrapnel but remained on duty. Maybe the pistol saved him from worse injury?

tanker enfield .38 s&w, St etienne 1892 8mm, s&w model 10 .38 s&w, RAF issued 1918 colt 1911 .455 webley auto (marked for both www's) , and 1917 Remington rand 1911 .45 ACP model US govt.

Interesting - I actually owned this pistol for a while and either sold it to you or another CGN'r who you got it from. Anyway I looked into Newman as well
