Hey Everyone. I am buying in a bunch of pheasant chicks this spring and although I love to hunt them. Cleaning them is a horribly tedious job. I used to know a guy years ago up near Angus that had a mobile poultry processing business, but he is nowhere to be found.

Does anyone know of any small scale poultry processors in the Barrie, Ontario area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

When it comes to slaughter you really only have a few choices. The two I list below are used by friends of mine to slaughter turkey and chickens they raise on their farm.

Morrisons in Omemee, Ontario.
Sprucedale Meats in Sprucedale, Ontario.

Morrisons doesn't do overnight drop off so you have to go there same day.

I'm jealous, I wanted to do pheasant but my friends who own the farm won't let me. I'll be taking chickens and turkeys to Omemee though.

I have a 100' x 30' greenhouse frame that was on the property when I bought it. I am wrapping it in netting and throwing them in there. Hoping the mink do not get many. My 22 will keep the raccoons and skunks away.

You're lucky that you can do that. I live in Orillia and the fuddy-duddy town counsel has banned nearly every animal that isn't commonly found in a pet store.

I have a friend with chickens and he keeps a radio on in the coop. The noise seems to be keeping the coyotes away, I don't know if that would help on the mink though.

A fisher got another one of my friends chickens; it killed all but one and didn't even eat much of them. :(

The farm where I will be raising my chickens and turkeys has horses in the barn and that seems to keep the animals away. That and Lucy Goose; she is the best guard goose ever.

The radio thing works really well if you have it tuned to CBC.
