Hey gang,

Just wondering what guys are using for powder in their Stag 10 .308 loads? I'll be testing 150gr Nosler Partitions as well as 150gr Sierra Game Kings.

Thanks!

I've been using the Dominion Powders from CanAmm in my friends Stag 10. 1/2 price compared to the IMR equiv if you buy it in 5lbs and just as good. I've ran both D4895 and D4064SSC and they work great. I'm really quite impressed with how low I can load the D4895 for Cast bullets and still cycle the Stag 10 action. Well designed.

Are you simply using H4895 load data for the D4895? Does the D4895 meter well?

The official word is use IMR laid data -10% and work up.

I loaded 5 rounds at IMRs start load with actual IMR4895 and the same charge D4895 and choreographed both. I then adjusted my quick load program for the D4895 burn rate which for my particular batch was very close. It was a bit quicker.

Once corrected in quick load I use it for lots of different cals and bullet weights and it’s usually very close to the QL predictions.

Thank you for your reply.

It looks good at that price, however this statement "These are OEM, not canister grade, so you must work up the load with each lot number." concerns me. What is the difference here between OEM grade and Canister grade? Does this mean I buy a jug of it, tune a load, and then have to start again on the next jug?

Yeah I believe the lot to lot difference will mean you will need to re work your load everytime you get a new batch

Buy two jugs, mix them together. 10lbs will last you long.

If you buy 2 jugs at the same time they are the same lot number. If you bought from tbe batch a year ago it is a different lot number than the current offering.

I am new to reloading but I would still think I should re work my load with any new batch of components.

You are correct. That's why those of us who shoot a lot prefer to save about 40% off the IMR equiv and buy the Dominion powders in bulk (Which are sourced from IMR). I bought 15lbs last year. One 5lb keg when they first got it and another 2 when they put them on sale to clear out their last bit. All three 5 lb containers were from the same lot.

The savings are well worth the reloading time and extra range day it takes to work up a load when you buy in bulk.

Those Stag 10's really eat up the ammo! LOL!
