Here's the scenario: Going to load for 7X57, 260 and 243. Rifles and projectiles as follows:
1. FN 49 semi in 7X57 -- recommendation for a powder that might also work in the other two. Likely will use Hornady SST's 120 -140 gr. with a crimp ring and will be crimped with the Lee Factory Crimp Die. This powder choice needs to operate the action even though there is some gas adjustment. The gas port on the barrel is near the muzzle, not half way, so faster may not be the best choice here. Anyone load for this particular rifle and caliber?
2. 260 in a Rem. Model 7, 20" barrel I think. Likely 120 gr. SST's or similar. Possibly some 140's too but the 120's work fine on deer. Collett dies. Needs to be temp tolerant.
3. 243 in a Ruger M77 MKII Stainless, 20" barrel I think. This I want to utilize for wolf/coyote with 55 to 65 gr. V-Max's or similar. Collett dies. Velocities 3500 - 3800FPS, good accuracy with a worked up load and needs to be temp tolerant. (Safe on summer range and winter hunting without huge variation.)
Couple of questions: Is the new powder I have heard about available anywhere? It sounds like it could be real good, although perhaps a challege to get load info.
CCI 34 primers that are recommended for semi's; would they be OK for the other two as well. Sounds like I am looking for the Holy Grail but am just trying to standardize as much as possible to eliminate variables.
The reloading manuals have many of these particular calibers/loads in like powders so there is a starting point but from researching a while now on different forums the real world experience comes out and eliminates many options so what I am looking for is some of that real world experience. Thanks in advance.
