powder coat paint

princess auto red powder, turns out more pink-ish and is ####ty to work with . The black is alright to work with . The blue is the best one to work with . I have not been able to find any information on the curing time and temperatures for these powders .

I have some powders bought as surplus from commercial coaters that didn't come with a "recipe" for curing but all the one I have acquired from suppliers have specified cooking temps from 350 to 425 for durations of 15 to 20 min. The "un-recipe'd" ones, I just start at 400 deg for 15 min and do the 'crunch test"...If the coating sticks and doesn't flake off after being smashed with a hammer their good to go. I haven't had a reject yet but if I did I would just change one of the parameters a bit and try again.

I tried the black, red and yellow, so far. The red and black turned out good, the yellow was a total joke and waste of money ! Anyone have any ideas why one works great and one sucks, using the same procedure ??

To clarify, sorry, the black and red gave great coverage for me. The yellow, done at the sem time, same temp and all , came out very bumpy, splotchy. Some parts of the bullet had a very faint wisp of color and other parts were extremely built up , making bumps. I tried it several times and always got the same result. I have read this on other sites, so I am not alone, just puzzled. The bullets were all new, clean items.

Sorry I cant help you with that problem, I've never had that happen with any powder, some with minor "splotching" but nothing like you describe. The Yellow I have works wonderfully, it is JD yellow but it is some that I got from a commercial coater and it has no product sheet with it at all. I'm glad it works good...he gave me a full gallon pail of the stuff so will have J.D. bullets for the rest of my life.

I've been using PC for a while. Got it from Emerald Coatings. It works great, the only issue is that it increases the diameter of the boolit, so I'll have to run them through my .427 sizer first (which is OK, 'cuz at .427, they're a tad undersized). Does Princess Auto have a PC paint?
