Powder coated bullets in an M1 Garand

I have shot a few down range.

it will depend on the barrel/ seating depth/ nose contact/ how the chamber was cut

I have a old barrel and it loves them, the new barrel problems and stick to lube bullets on that one

Why would the type of rifle make any difference? The gas port might have some effect, but the velocity is at peak that far down the barrel. Is the coating an attempt to increase or smoothen the surface diameter? How would other rifles behave? I'm guessing this is different from moly greasing or moly powder cling coating on copper jacketed bullets.

Not a question I've had to think about, so asking basic questions.

Powder coated cast lead bullets can be shot at higher velocity than regular cast bullets. That's what is going on here.

Another plus is no smoke from the bullet lube. Indoors at a small range, that is a plus. I'm not saying that I will be shooting a Garand at our little range, but for handguns, it is a plus. If the powder coating is done properly, no leading of the barrel and no lead in the air are a plus as well.

I have not, but I would think you may have issues with the powdercoating being damaged during feeding. I have had soft point jacketed bullets get pretty beat up in mine, so I would expect similar or worse damage with cast. I'd be curious to see if you could run them hot enough to cycle the action, as well. I've tried mine with soft loads and it never stopped cycling but those would still have been over 2000fps I expect. What bullet weight(s) are you thinking of trying?

There is a problem with some but not all "gas ported" rifles with powder coated bullets. some folks have shot hundreds of powder coated slugs through their .30 Carbines with no problems some only get a few rounds down range before the rifle quits cycling. The problem stems from when the gas port was drilled through the barrel, sometimes the drill bit will not cut cleanly when exciting the steel into the bore and creates a bump or bur in the land or groove and when the powder coated slug pass's over some gets caught by the small bore restriction , eventually retarding energy required to cycle the bolt. Easilly fixed by a teardown of the gas system and cleaned/
