Powder coating a rifle?

Not much more heat and some steels depending on their hardness will have heat treatment affected. Usually that starts occuring at about 550 degrees (straw colour).
 
I wouldnt do it..

1. Its not that pleasing of a finish for firearms..plating and or phosphatizing is superior.

For a variety of reasons...look at alternatives. BTW you can powder coat down below 250F as well there is UV curable powder as well which can be done at virtually ambient temps.
2. Temps up around that range can theoreticall weaken springs.

That's why I said, "depending on their hardness".
