It's been a few years but at one time there were some good threads on powder coating lead bullets, including on with one or 2 really active members that's were doing a lot of experiemnting and sharing pictures. It inspired me to give it a try and ordered some powder, found an old toaster oven on Kijiji, and loaded up a bunch of .303 and shot them just fine.
I didn't stop reloading but the $15 Kijiji toaster oven died after the 3rd use and i didn't replace it. Now I'm adding a new caliber and want to get back into powder coating. There are some tips and questions I'd love to bounce off some of those members, but I have terrible success with searching this site and terms like powder, coat, and coating are popular in almost all searchable forums here.

I wasn't smart enough to subscribe to them at the time, hoping maybe someone else here did and can link me back to them.

Apologies in advance as i do intend on bringing back the dead. Although with the goal of participating and adding new info.

There is a few days reading in this forums cast bullet section....but if you want weeks of antidotal information reading on all the vagaries of PC you want to make a visit to Castboolits web site to the "various lubes & coatings" section....If it aint been done or tried on there it aint worth tying.

Also check on Cast Boolits forum if you can't find what you need on CGN. There is a fair bit of bs on CB to wade through but some nuggets too.

I have had success with cast 9.3x62 powder coated 250gr up to 2500 fps now after several tries. Not sure it was worth the effort but learned something.

Are you checking them as well

Usually of the bullet has a gas check shank I gas check them. Sometimes before powder coating, sometimes after. I find accuracy is usually better with a gas check vs the unchecked gas check bullet. I think the base deforms more ununiform on a bare gas check shank. A uniform base is the most important aspect of cast bullet flight. A plain base bullet without a check shank works great powder coated.

I have not shot or loaded a round that was both gas checked and powder coated. I've loaded checked lead and have powder coated some .311 plain base lead for a .303: I don't chrony but they seemed to shoot just fine with the loads I was already using. I don't stock gas checks and would prefer to not add that process

RE; GC Powder coated slugs, My two cents worth from my own testing:

I have tested a fair amount of 30-30 and 38-55 GC shanked slugs both with GC installed and not installed, some after PCing and others before. on both calibers I can see no benefits to GC installed bullets if they are coated. Gas checked slugs dont shoot "better" than non checked ones even if they have the "check base.

The 30-30 are pushed at 1750 fps and the 38-55 are at 1500 so im not pressing the velocity envelope....faster may show a difference but not at my velocities.

Gas checks seems to turn the LEE 55grn from useless to ok regardless of PC.

In 303 with an oversize bore and chamber accuracy fell off in the 1700- 1800 fps range using pc gas check design bullet without gas check installed. Using a gas check allowed me to hit 2000 fps without seeing accuracy degrading. Not that it was a target rifle but a 2.5 inch group is better than a 4.5" group. Similar experiences in other calibers. Using a plain base bullet might work better but that's not what I had on hand.

In the 9.3x 62 I got up to 2500 with a gas check and kept good accuracy. In 7.5 Swiss gas check made no difference , but that rifle does not like any cast bullet it's been fed up to now.

I can't get jacket bullet accuracy from pc bullets, maybe my coating is not uniform..? Some rifles and bullets come real close though. Shooting 416 I can live with less accuracy in practise bullets when they are small fraction the cost.
