powder loads

i bought the Lyman reloading manual. i bought this manual specifically because Lyman does not make any type of ammo or guns. therefore they have no real bias on which ammo or guns to use. they have both min loads and max loads. but its best to refer to other books at the same time. for example, i just started reloading 9 mm, the lyman manual is telling me that with a 124 gr FMJ using 231 Winchester powder my min load is 3.9 gr's and my max is 4.4 gr's. but i have used 4.4 grains and im still having a problem with my gun not cycling properly, i may be under crimping, but if im not and i looked at another manual, it may say using 231 winch my max load is 4.9.

in short, yes if its a reloading manual it will give you min and max loads, but min and max loads might be slightly diff and vary from book to book.

most manual will give a range from starting loads to max loads.
if they do not provide a range than there will be some sort of statement somewhere in the print indicating if it is max or not.
look carefully at all the print, are you referring to a specific manual?

The Start is a load that should work in all guns. I once saw a rifle that would not handle the Start laods. the MAx is max in their gun. It might be mild in yours, or might develop proof load pressures.

Hence "Start low and work up."

Do not start with a Max load. No one knows what is Max in your gun, until you do some development.
