Powder measure. Weight vs Volume

So,

Iam house sitting for my folks while they are away and slowing going through my dads reloading manuals and started reading Lee's Modern Reloading and came across the section about Weight vs Volume.

When I was taught to reload I was shown to always weigh and start at the starting weight. Lee claims many bench rest reloaders use volumn and don't weigh their loads and get better accuracy.

Anyone out there able to confirm this? Iam very tempted to load up a bunch of 308, half by volumn and half by weight and see what happens. Just checked and would have to run to wholesale for components to match whats on the lee card. The dipper that came with is too big for what I have set up to run at the moment.

Thoughts and others experiences would be awesome. If I get a chance I'll carry through with this and post results.

Cheers,

Karl

I just shot one of my best groups with Varget loads thrown from an RCBS Uniflow measure. I set it up with a scale, but I did NOT weigh each load, and relied on the repeated volume it threw.

Also using the Lee dippers and the method Lee mentions his friend using I can scoop extruded powders the same weight, or +/- .1gr enough that I am comfortable loading as is and not measuring each load. I have the whole dipper set and chart. I find the dipper included with Lee dies and Lee Loaders usually doesn't line up with a good common powder for the calibre being loaded.

I noticed the same thing. The dipper for my 30-30 set looks like it should line up ok. However the dipper for the 308 and 270 dies dosn't match up to the components I have on hand. I think I might take a buzz around town to see if I can find a dipper set. Or try using dads lee powder measure/thrower without weighing every charge. Either way. Load up a bunch and take them out to see.

Thanks
