Been looking to get a 8 pounder of unique powder can't find it anywhere in Alberta my local gun shop told me the boarder is locked down and no new imports of powder are getting through anyone know were powder is still available by the 8 lbs keg. Or is anyone organizing a group buy please help I have much reloading to do lol

hahah, you've been living under several large rocks i see....

unless your going to offer $100/pound you will not see unique or any alliant powder until next year, if that. pistol powder is very hard to come by since they moved production to rifle powders which are slowly coming back. they get small shipments which if you know people or get lucky you will have a pound or 2.

Border locked down? That's a new one. The guy in your local gun shop is pulling stories out of his ass.

Alliant has been having a lot of issues getting powder anywhere. Even US retailers are often sold out. There are several rumours flying around as to why:
-Obama signed a secret order to restrict powder to Canada
-Alliant is sending most production to retail ammunition manufacturers so only a trickle gets into the retail market
-US government agencies are getting ready for the apex of the global banking conspiracy where they kill off 99% of the worlds population and take the remaining 1% as slaves; they are stockpiling powder for this
-the Alliant factory burned down and there is no more Alliant powder
-Alliant's export licenses expired and they can no longer export powder to Canada
-Alliant is filling domestic back orders as a priority and have temporarily suspended foreign orders
-Canadian importers and retailers have fabricated an artificial shortage so they can increase prices to get massive profits

As far as I have found anywhere, no single story has been confirmed by ATK or Alliant themselves. Most sources are saying late 2015 or early 2016 for regular orders of Alliant powder to Canada to resume.

I have had to put in much more effort than normal, but I found ten pounds of R-22, and five pounds of R-7 last fall, and four pounds of R-10x just recently, so some Alliant powder has been making it into Canada this year.

Yup. It's bad south of the border, too. Midway's current listings for powder- Available: 26. Out of stock: 157.

A couple of hours ago I got a call from Peter at Rusty Wood Trading here in Mission. I had been on the waiting list for W231 since June, 2013. He just got 10 lbs. in and had 2 left. I took them. (I'll find out tomorrow how much he ordered but I bet it was more than 10 lbs.)

UPDATE: He ordered 100 lbs. of W231. Got 10. :(

Point 2 and 6 are spot on, the rest is tin foil worthy.

Personally, I haven't seen a pound of pistol powder in over a year, so at this point I'm not going to buy the Dillon press I was looking at - no point in having a high capacity press if you don't have the powder to load with. While I still have the remains of a 4lb canister of Bullseye left, I'll keep using my old Lee and shooting more factory ammo.

I know, I was just posting things I'd heard here on CGN. Some people are ridiculous.
A particular favorite of mine is #3. That one has a lot of fervent supporters.
Something I've found out over the years is the fact that the more something is far fetched the more it becomes believable to some/many people.Boggles the mind sometimes.

Fishing World has twice as much powder as usual. IMR, Varget and a few Vit.

No shotgun or handgun powder.

Lots of cases of ammo....looks like they got a semi full of ammo/powder/primers.

We make powder in Quebec Canada but we don't package or sell it from this fair land . It's sent in bulk south repackaged and a bit finds its way north again.
Ah the booming canadian manufacturing retailing industries.
Hewers of wood drawers of water ;drinkers of timmy's where we all will end up working for minimum wage and no benefits.
Too bad our economy couldn't grow like the USA's.
How low has the loonie dove to and how fast in the past 9 months? And thats another reason on component pricing -our sinking buck

A fellow I know that loaded ammunition commercially used to drive to General Dynamics in PQ and go home with a pickup full. Not sure if that is still doable or not.

This shortage really sucks, been looking almost daily for almost two years for W231, Unique, Clays, and other pistol powders with no luck but finally a buddy was in Calgary and found me 2 lbs of W231. Pretty happy about that but still have to ration it out until more starts trickling in. Hope it starts to soon...

fairy tales, I was able to get all the powder that I needed, just had to do a whole lot more leg work than usual. Seen a lot lately on the EE

Well here's another fairy tale for you. A good one. Maybe this year or next, we will once again be able to cross border shop for reloading components without export permits, paperwork etc...

I was told that recently at a vendor.........
