Hi Guys,
Could anyone tell me if there is a difference between the I M R 4895 powder, and the H 4895?? I am loading for a 270 WSM, and was given a very accurate load for it in H 4895, but only have IMR 4895. I thought they were exactly the same, but a friend of mine thinks there is a difference!!??
Sounds like a question from a Newbie...and it is!! Still learning about all these things.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Eastman.
PS Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

The diff. is small but, for safety sake treat it as a totally diff. powder, use loads from the manual for IMR 4895, the diff. is probably less than lot to lot variation of the same powder.

The Hodgdon version has their proprietary treatment to make it less temperature sensitive. Which means the differences between the two will be greater at high ambient temperatures and low ones.

4895 has too fast of a burn rate for the 270 WSM to give you good performance. You want to look at something way slower burning, like RL 19, RL 22, IMH / H 4350 or 4831.
