Hi. I'm just getting started with reloading. I will be loading 9mm using Power Pistol, based on a recommendation from a very experienced reloader when I asked him what powder I should buy, from my local dealer's stock. The problem I'm having is finding specific load data for jacketed 124g round nose bullets, which is what I'm pretty sure I'll be using. The Lee book has 125g listed with a 6g starting load. The Alliance data shows 124 g Speer HP's with a 6.4g maximum load. Any thoughts on loads or directions to reliable data is appreciated. thanks.

Alliant has a 124 gr 6.4gr

It doesn't say maximum, but starting with less would be good. If you aren't sure about the powder, of what use is the recommendation from a very experienced reloader?

Load enough that it cycles the action reliably and is up to accuracy expectations, unless you want a certain velocity or power factor, that is.

I will need to meet the IDPA power floor of 125,000 so I require a velocity of 1008 fps. The 6.4g recipe for the 124g Speer HP suggests a velocity of 1157 fps which is more than enough. I found some data on brianenos suggesting 5.2g will achieve a velocity of approx. 1070 fps. fired from an M&P Pro, which I use, which is sufficient. I think I'll start with 5.2g and hopefully have a chance to chrono it at some point before a sanctioned match to make sure it meets the PF. This also fits in with what mlehtovaara found to be a good load for himself personally. Thanks for everyone's input.
